For Mumbaikars it’s a challenging situation as the financial capital of the country is
recorded to have the highest COVID-19 cases so far. According to IMD, the cyclone is going
to reach the alibag coast in Raigad district in the afternoon, having a wind velocity of 95-105
kmph. Mumbai is on red alert because the cyclone is tremendously moving towards the
coast. Hence, no one is allowed to stay outdoors and CM Uddhav Thackeray has instructed
the whole maharashtra to stay indoors completely, for the coming two days.
The storm is likely to have a landfall in Maharashtra and Gujarat. Also, the waves
are upto 6.5 metres long. The cyclone forming was observed on 2nd June and immediate
warnings and red alert to Mumbai and the disaster management was conveyed.
If we see the cyclone detection on the map we can clearly see that the cyclone is
affecting the western part of India or more clearly the western coast. The flight and railway
timings are rescheduled depending on the impact and to provide services to the passengers
during the crisis. The airlines include AirIndia, Indigo, GoAir and Spicejet leading to the
domestic flights being resumed after the lockdown of COVID-19.
- IS CYCLONE NISARGA DANGEROUS THAN AMPHAN?
No, cyclone nisarga is less destructive and weaker than cyclone Amphan. The strength of
cyclones are generally measured according to the wind velocity. Nisarga has wind velocity of
95-105 kmph whereas Amphan was classified as super cyclone because it’s wind velocity
was about 100-110 kmph. But the news reports say that the wind velocity happens to
increase.
- ABOUT THE CYCLONE.
The cyclone resulted in a depression in the Arabian sea. As the cyclone is about to intensify
currently, we have no detailed information about the cyclone.
Let’s hope all this gets away soon and Mumbai will be a dazzling and enthusiastic city as
